Bigger
kob have been caught on fly in South African waters including
an amazing 80lb fish that was taken in broad daylight. Most
catches seem to be incidental while targeting other species
but I have found that using the heavy white clouser fished
slowly along the bottom with occasional pauses has produced
fish in different estuaries at different times of the day.
No clear
patterns have emerged except to say that some tidal movement
seems to result in more consistent catches. For me, however,
fishing for mulloway on fly will always be about cold nights,
hot chips and good mates squeezed together on the deck of
the Sandbar Restaurant on the Bushman's River.
If you
can find a similar situation on a river near you, check it
out. If you find the jewies, give me a call and I will bring
the Kob Klousers, just have a big enough landing net ready.
