C & R - A better way to treat catch and release your fish

My friend in Canada has a wonderful way of catching and releasing fish, which gives them a better chance at survival, This Romeo's way,

What gloves do you prefer? There are plenty of different style of fly fishing gloves made in neoprene, fleece, wool or cotton.

For landing fish, I prefer the simple cotton glove.

The key with a cotton glove it allows me to tail fish without slipping. Time is everything when landing a fish because of the catch and release practice. This cotton glove can be rinsed and wash quickly and ready to use until the next fish is hook.

It's also very handy to keep the fish from trashing when taking photos. I normally don't have the fish out of the water more then 30 seconds. Every seconds counts and with the right tools like a good glove, is extremely very important. I try to stay away from using a fly fishing net and personally prefer using the cotton glove

A better way to catch and release

1 - After the fish is played out, bring it into the shallows (let it in the water).

2 - Wearing the cotton glove, hold the fish just in front of the tail.

3 - Slide the measuring-tape under the hand that is holding the fish until it reaches the fork of the tail.

4 - Pull the tape out to the tip of the head and note the fork length (cm).

5 - Do not keep the fish more then 30 seconds to allow a safe quick release.

Regards,
Romeo R.
