I’ve tried and tried the Southport Seaway, time and time again for Tailor, however none love me.
As late June and the first week of July are the ideal times for Bass on their winter saltwater run in our area the mind must turn to Bass.
So thats all of Tailor fishing for a few weeks for me, its now big beautiful Bass time !
Tonight, the clouds in the sky were clearing and a rather fresh SEaster pumping away, so me thinks, no need for a rain coat, the strong wind will keep any rain away, well that was just a silly dumb idea as just on dark the rain poured out of the sky in bucket loads !
Leaving home at 4.45pm today and returned home at 7.30pm, with the time in between filled by the best Bass fishing I’ve had ever, and my first Bass adventure started in 1962 or 63, something like that.
first fish a nice 38cm came in, in full sunlight as did the next Bass
Well 2 nice little Bass at well over 35cm, its a nice afternoon.
Then as darkness arrived, so did the lousy rain ! And thoughts of getting wet again we racing through my head when the fly line pulled tight ! And even though I dared to all the pressure I was brave to do on the Talon Double, the WMD 7/8W 12Footer, the Bass just increased her speed and power, and away she went straight into the xxxx .(telling this just might tell too much )
Fly lost, the Bass won, and this happened a total of 3 times during the endless rain that in the end soaked me, enough to leave the Bass for another day. Results, lost 3 big fish, I have seen two big fish caught and released, of course from about the same area, one of 62 and the other girl a 63cm fish. In turn I grassed a total of 10fish, with two being close to 40cm, and all the remainer at plus 40, including a big fat girl at 49.5cm.
Some boring Bass photos for you, sorry but they are the best I could during the rain, and fearing the camera would drown.
And as darkness arrived the bigger fish came out to play
Just checked the camera, its dry and ready for tonights fun, which will include wearing a raincoat, even with the sky clear !
I wonder how many fly fishers never get to fish, hot looking locations like the one where the Bass live due to there is only about 2 meters of back cast area available at most, where as Double Hander really shines, couple this to a powerful Underhand cast and you blast your fly out into Bass home range.
