The last couple of days have been a total waste of time and effort on the fishing front, now I give up till a heavy change in the weather and the off shore water temps move in.

So in place of casting a thousand casts, its fly tying to construct a number of trout flies for our coming spring trip.

Myself, I am a huge fan of Spider type flies, be it for the rivers or the lakes, why they take this fly or rather trick so many fish into thinking what they are seeing is a meal, I am not sure but what I am 100% sure of they work at tricking trout AND Bass !

I mainly follow the construction of this great little book, you may have seen it before ? To me its worth its weight in gold, as the saying goes. And don’t tell anybody tell you, you cannot cast Spiders on a Trout Spey Double Handed fly rod !

Time and time again I have tried, different locations and chasing different fish with the same endless results, nothing/zero.

Conditions have looked ideal, but…….

With ocean conditions like in the photo, time and time again, nothing. The positive out come has been I have tried a number of ideas with my WMD Double Handed fly rod, both the 7/8w 12 footer and the 9/10w 14 footer

As the weather here has been unsually warm for this time of year, and the Seaway fishing from the rocks so lousy, I decided to search again for the Tarpon and Giant Herring.

Well tonight and last night are in the fail class, saw noting, not even a poor old mullet.

Maybe cleaning the pool and mowing the grass would be more productive :)

The best thing about to night was I put in practice at my Spey casting with the 12foot 7/8w WMD Double Handed fly rod,

Tonights fly fishing adventure was back to the Southport Seaway with the 7/8w Talon WMD Double Handed fly rod and a fly modelled on a Salmon fly.

And of course the results were the same, nothing and saw nothing not even a bait fish or even any small fishes swimming amoung the rocks, This time of year should also see Niggers/Blackfish or call them what you want, massing in huge numbers spawning, but not a single fish has been seen for months.

Better things, I have a copy of  The Complete Illustrated Directory of Salmon Flies by Chris Mann, yes its all about Salmon flies and fly tying, however there are so many patterns suitable for Bass and Trout than makes this book doubley useful with ‘heaps’ of patterns/ideas for saltwater baitfish and shrimp/prawns.  There are 1800 fly patterns contained in the book with each comes a great clear photo of the fly. The book size is 220 x 280mm, and weighs over 2kgs, a wonderful book, would be a mighty huge understatement !

note,  The center plate in the image of the book is in gold and therefore the scanning comes out almost dull.

A thought for today, by who I don’t know,

Better the devil you know , than the devil you don’t.

No fishing today or this evening.

Today was a time to share, we went for a long lunch with a dear friend who had just lost her husband, a wonderful fishing and hunting friend. A friend that I’ve walked miles with and shared adventures with from being caught in a rain storm to being almost cooked by the sun, from Sambar to Red Deer and all in between.  Something that can never be replaced, a friend who could do anything.

If you are gifted with a friend like this, say thanks mate, for no reason as the day will arrive without warning where your mind will scream, why didn’t I say say thanks once or twice.

We had a wonderful lunch and a glass or two of wine and came home rather late, so fishing here.

Yesterday a friend up the Coast a little way, caught a 19pound Tailor / Bluefish to some people, from the surf which indicates there are some Tailor still about, but why don’t they arrive on the Northern Gold Coast ???????

Theres the good news for today,

And here is the sicko news today. There is a little Saltwater FlyFishing Forum here in Australia, that think they are somewhat special.

And members once again went on the attack, attacking myself, personally. Why, maybe you could ask poor Dazz as he runs this Forum.

And now the strange part, I have only ever meet one of  these childish name calling people.  And that was years ago.  I don’t want ANYTHING to do with this group of negative people who ‘talk’ all about fishing and they are real good at the talk !

May I suugest to those resonsible,  that your threatening posts on the Saltwater fly fishing forum amounts to cyber bullying and intimidation and is a highly illegal offence.

And now on a happy brighter note, a set of Wet and Spider flies. That cast with ease from your Trout Spey Double.

Still nothing, do a fish strike or anything, seems like the Gods of fishing have given me a zero score so far this month.

Maybe its time to forget all about trying to find the Jewfish in the Nerang River system as the water is warming so the Tarpon and Giant Herring should be stirring and becoming more active.

And then, the double handed fly will realy shine in the Sun, as numbers of locations where these two rocket fish live in the summer months are covered with trees and bushes, with no back cast area available.

And no back cast area counts the single handed fly caster out of these beautiful mozzie locations.

Fly tying for these fish, only normally requires a simple White Gurgler tied on a # 2 hook.

Last night nothing, and once more fished the Seaway for a possible Jewfish in a number of locations.

How many times I’ve fished that place to not even a touch !

Then today a friend Kruger took two beautiful Salmon in the Seaway from a boat.

And he was using his Talon Trout Spey, 5/6w 12 footer, which according to the so called experts in this country when it comes to fly fishing is almost impossible ! (once I wondered about the so called experts on fly fishing in this country, but I wonder no more as their talk, is just that, cheap talk only for the sake of making a noise)

The little Talon Trout Spey was never designed for 68cm long Salmon, however it, the the little Double works like a magic stick beating up the rocket jumping  fish ! And of course they were easy to land even from a boat (take notice so called experts, you don’t have much trouble landing fish with a 12 foot Double from a boat, well you might but most people don’t ! )

No matter hard I try,

no matter where I fish,

no matter what fly I use or have used over the last few days, not even a touch, nothing except the endless losing of flies to the bottom or the rocks after a wave crashing through.

I have fished the surf, the Seaway, the Ocean and now up the rivers and have even tried the best Tarpon location in town, just in case the seasons movements have been early, but nothing.

The best Tarpon location about, for anybody who knows Nerang, you will know this location, as its right there in front of you as you travel around Nerang.

double handed fly rod, here And now the Seaway, where the Ocean looked so good, but nothing, even the Spin guys are on a zero catch/hook-up rate and are looking for reasons

Flies, this is a wet, just used model of my Jew fish fly, 150mm long Tube fly. Can your 7w cast a fly like this, my 7/8w Double does.

Are you missing all the action because of the fly rod you are using ? Maybe its time you steped up, to Doubles, like the rest of the World.
