Recycling of Road Kill or anything sleeping take you can take
a wee bit of a nip of its fur whiskers or skin.

July ..... August

There is a never ending supply of Fly Tying materials out on the streets, the highways and byways, just waiting for recycling into your valuable collection of.

This possible material collection, is only limited by what you are legally allowed to keep and by what the boss of the house lets you retain.

Your friend's family dog, cat, duck, guinea pig, rat or mice, rabbit, budgie, cockatiel or duck are all willing to donate their hair, fur, feathers or whiskers to help. However sometimes it's better not to ask the owner, just quietly collect, with a quick snip or tug out, here and there. Or you can wait for the animal or bird to be flat asleep on a roadway somewhere or even suggest that you baby sit the animal whilst the family is away on holidays.

OK, YOUR GONE NOW PIGGY, Talon Fly tying you have become a part of !

Then, whilst the pet is sleeping you can take a clip or two with your scissors and everybody is still happy.

F
ind a sleeping roo or wallaby on the roadside, or a flattened flying fox. These are all too good to just waste.

The common rat that that is having a sleep, induced by a rat trap.

That dirty old White Ibis, that nobody wants, and is very flat on the roadway has, on the leading edge of some of it's wing feathers, a section that's just like mini Biot feathers and in white, which enables a wonderful variety of colour by dying to your selected shade.

Some of the wing feathers are naturally flat and these can also be dyed and used for wing cases and tails and the upper wings on streamers and matukas.

T
he common Starling, has mini cape feathers around their necks which are suitable for small flies like 18's and downwards, and have body feathers that look like mini Pheasant 'Church' windows, that are ideal for Mrs Simpson type flies.

There are an amazing variety of creatures that have potential uses in the fly tiers box of collectables. Some items that I have been told not to collect,( just leave there to rot), are the Koala and Possum, furs, black cockies or even the poo kicker,(the Moorhen) and there are many more.

Please ask your local Parks and Wildlife people what, and which, creatures 'bits' you are legally allowed to collect and recycle, before collecting.

Piggy, why do you have such tough skin to cut ?
